ELEKIT TU-8400 SE Tube Amplifier
Elekit TU-8400 is a DIY kit of a pentode single ended power amplifier. Thanks to two operation modes and Active Automatic Bias circuit, you can use it with plenty of different power tubes like 6V6, 6F6, 6L6 series, KT88, KT90, EL34 (6CA7), 5881, 6550, as well as KT120, KT150 and even KT170. This model is dedicated to be used with preamplifier, although front-panel located input is equipped with additional preamp module which allows to use it with your phone or portable music player. The kit itself contains all elements including enclosure but except tubes.
Description
TU-8400 is a pentode Single Ended Power Amplifier which allows you to easily use a variety of major octal-based output tubes. In terms of specifications, it is an intermediate-class model between the TU-8200, which has been well-received for many years, and its big brother model, TU-8850. Two operation modes – HIGH and LOW enabled by Active Automatic Bias adjustment system allows using a various types of power tubes. In HIGH mode, 6L6 series, KT88, KT90, EL34 (6CA7), 5881, 6550, etc. can be used as well as KT120, KT150 and KT170, enabled by the power transformer with high current capacity. In LOW mode, 6V6, 6F6, etc. can also be used.
The width and depth of the case are the same as the TU-8200, but the silver base has been replaced with a satin black paint finish, and a safety cover (bonnet) has been added.
This amplifier is basicaly designed to be used in conjunction with a preamplifier. However, as an additional preamp module based on OPamp is built-in the INPUT-2, a music player or phone with low power can also be used and connected directly to INPUT-2. Amplifier is able to work in one of three connection modes: Ultra-linear (UL), Pentode or Triode which are selectable by jumper located on the PCB behind the front panel.
There is also ample space for a larger coupling capacitors for exchange. The maximum size of the capacitor that fits in the space is 20 mm in diameter and 36 mm in length, and the required capacitor specifications are higher than 0,1 μF / 400 V.
At the front panel, there is a headphone jack – users can select sound volume level according to a headphone to be used just by changing a jumper installed under the front panel.

The kit contains all required electronic and mechanical parts as well as English language assembly manual but no tubes at all. To have a fully fuctional amplifier you have to buy one of our tubes sets based on JJ Electronic brand new tubes (KT88 set, 6L6GC set, 6V6 set) or to provide tubes on your own. Please remember also that power cord is Japanese type, so you need to use at least standard IEC power cord with your country type power plug.
